Why do we need to use disposable gloves?

Everything about vinyl gloves

Use disposable gloves for different purposes. In this article, we are going to talk about why we have to use disposable gloves. There is a wide variety of disposable gloves, made from different materials. Designed to protect the user from environmental hazards or to protect healthcare personnel and patients from infection, they are intended for single use only and should be discarded immediately after use.

How to choose your disposable gloves?

The noticeable differences between the models are mainly related to comfort, resistance, precision, flexibility and the risk of allergy. Choosing the right disposable glove according to your activity is not an easy thing, which is why it is useful to ask yourself the right questions

  • What do I need disposable gloves for?
  • How to use disposable gloves?
  • Which material suits my needs?
  • Should they be powdered or unpowdered?
  • What color should I use?
  • How to use disposable gloves?

Disposable gloves offer protection against bacteria and viruses and reduce the risk of contamination, which does not mean that they replace the most basic hygiene rules. Before putting on gloves, it is necessary to wash and disinfect your hands.

This type of personal protective equipment is for single use only, so gloves that have already been used should never be worn again. Choosing the best disposable glove for your activity is very important. You have to assess the needs (medical handling, harmful or corrosive products, etc.) and know that it is important to choose your disposable gloves according to your morphology. Several sizes exist, to ensure optimal contact with the hands, and thus allow use in the best possible conditions of comfort.

The different glove materials

latex gloves

Disposable latex gloves:
Latex, very thin and flexible, offers many advantages. It has high tear resistance and high elasticity. A latex glove is very flexible, it allows great dexterity and allows you to perform precise gestures. It also makes it possible to handle certain chemical products (the most classic). The latex glove protects the hands against contamination in a medical environment or during cleaning operations.

Although they are ideal for professionals in the health, industry and cleaning sector, latex gloves are nevertheless likely to trigger allergic reactions. To avoid this risk, it is best to opt for disposable nitrile gloves.

Nitrile gloves

Nitrile Disposable Gloves:
Nitrile is the best alternative to latex. Made from synthetic polymer, it is hypoallergenic. Disposable nitrile gloves offer perfect protection for people with rubber allergies. These models are slightly more expensive than latex or vinyl but they are more tear and puncture resistant. Comfort is at the rendezvous and protection is optimal, even against chemical agents.

Nitrile gloves are perfectly suited to health and industrial professionals but can perfectly be used for food processing.

Vinyl gloves

Disposable Vinyl Gloves:

Vinyl is the economical solution in the single-use clothing market. Disposable vinyl gloves are preferred in situations where the need for protection or durability is not a priority. Vinyl tends to wear out quickly, so it’s not suitable for heavy duty. The vinyl glove is less flexible than the latex one, so precise gestures are more difficult.

Vinyl gloves are mainly used to carry out work related to hygiene and catering (service, but also maintenance).

Disposable gloves, powdered or unpowdered?

The different models of gloves are available in two powdered or powder-free versions.

Powdered gloves

The powder in the gloves is a powder made from corn starch. This facilitates donning and doffing. It also limits perspiration, and therefore allows you to keep the gloves on your hands longer. If the powder has its advantages, it also has its disadvantages, in particular that of causing an allergic reaction in certain subjects. Also note that the presence of powder in the gloves decreases dexterity, because the glove can slip at the fingertips…

Powder-free gloves:

the absence of powder minimizes the risk of allergy and also avoids the pollution of handled objects. The only downside to no powder is the cost. Indeed the powder is part of the standard manufacturing process and requires an additional operation and cost to remove the powder.

What color disposable gloves should I use?

Disposable gloves exist in different colors, either to match a use, specific station, or simply to meet user preferences. They are found in white, blue, green, transparent and even black. Hemera Holding also offers more colorful gloves including orange ones for automotive uses

Aside from their color, white and black gloves are identical in composition. Black gloves will be preferred in messy trades such as tattoo artists, mechanics, even hairdressers (dyes) so as not to show dirt on the gloves. They will therefore be visually clean.

The blue color can also be used in all sectors.
